The OutOfMemoryError stops Backlog Enterprise from being displayed.

If you are using Backlog Enterprise 1.9.0 or later, you may be able to solve this problem using the following procedure.

First, please check whether Tomcat log file has the following error message output.

Tomcat log file path: /opt/backlog/tomcat/logs/catalina.out
Error message:
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Metaspace

If the above error is output, increase the value of metaspace with the following setting file.

Setting file path: /out/backlog/scripts/env
Action: Increase the values of XX:MetaspaceSize and -XX:MaxMetaspaceSize
BACKLOG_CATALINA_OPTS="-Djava.awt.headless=true -Dorg.apache.tomcat.util.buf.UDecoder.ALLOW_ENCODED_SLASH=true -Dsolr.home=/opt/backlog/data/solr -Xms512m -Xmx512m -XX:MetaspaceSize=128m -XX:MaxMetaspaceSize=128m"

Also, customers using 1.9.0 may have an error in specifying -XX:MetaspaceSize and -XX:MaxMetaspaceSize. We are sorry for the trouble but please change them as follows.

-XX:PermSize -> -XX:MetaspaceSize
-XX:MaxPermSize -> -XX:MaxMetaspaceSize

After fixing the setting file, you will need to restart backlog-app.

service backlog-app stop
ps aux | grep tomcat

If you can't confirm the stop with the ps command, please use the kill command.

service backlog-app start

Appropriate values for -XX:MetaspaceSize and -XX:MaxMetaspaceSize depend on your system environment. Please adjust the required memory capacity by installing a server monitoring tool (Sensu, Zabbix, etc).
